After several months of high production in Ecuador and a prolonged period of very low prices, the market has begun to change gradually. The first noticeable shifts appeared as early as last week. The market is emerging from a state of oversupply and entering a phase of a more delicate balance between demand and the availability of key varieties.
This is most evident with white rose. Its supply on the open market is dwindling, and prices have begun to rise after a long period during which the market had effectively become accustomed to rock-bottom levels. Playa Blanca remains the most expensive position at present, but the price increase is already affecting other white varieties as well. At the same time, light pink and pastel shades, as well as garden rose varieties - especially those in soft color palettes - are also seeing price increases.
This trend is driven by two key factors. The first is the start of the wedding season, which traditionally boosts demand for white, pastel, and light-colored roses, including spray roses and garden varieties. The second is a decline in production in Ecuador, which directly reduces the available supply in the most in-demand categories. The combination of these factors is leading to a rapid decline in available inventory and increased competition for order confirmations.
At the same time, red roses and most other color categories remain relatively stable in terms of volume. Moreover, growers are actively using red varieties as add-ons when confirming orders for items in short supply. This is no longer just an option, but a practical tool that genuinely increases the chances of order confirmation.
Kenya deserves special attention. At first glance, it may seem that there is an abundance of flowers there at good prices, but in reality, the situation is slightly different. Demand in the market is currently low, so there are many offers and discounts, but these mainly apply to varieties that are not in high demand.
At the same time, the picture is the opposite for key varieties: either there are few of them, or farms are confirming orders for them very selectively. The season is also a factor. It is currently winter in Kenya, and the cool weather is also affecting supply volumes. As a result, the market looks uneven: on the one hand, there are cheap offers for secondary positions; on the other, there is a shortage of the assortment that buyers actually need.
Under these conditions, the speed of procurement and preorders are becoming increasingly important. When it comes to white and pastel shades, spray roses, and garden roses, it is best not to delay your decisions. If you buy entirely or partially through the open market on our online trading platform, it is better to start purchasing as early as possible—from 7:00 a.m. Ecuador time. For high-demand positions, it is currently more advantageous to place orders immediately, without lengthy price negotiations, while simultaneously sourcing red varieties. This significantly increases the likelihood of confirmation from the farms.
The situation remains stable for the other categories. Gypsophila is available in sufficient quantities and is widely used in wedding floristry. There is an abundance of carnations - both red and white, as well as other colors - and promotions from Colombia and Ecuador are still ongoing. Demand for hydrangeas remains high, especially for green hydrangeas from Colombia. However, due to rain and high order volumes, flower heads up to 15–16 cm in diameter are more commonly available, and interest in this size is only growing, especially in the wedding segment.
Overall, the market is beginning to emerge from a phase of low prices for in-demand positions and is gradually restructuring. White and pastel varieties are already seeing price increases, while red and other colors remain stable; alternative markets, such as Kenya, require a more careful and selective approach. The key right now is to place orders well in advance, time purchases on the open market correctly, and structure orders appropriately given the current situation.
