Alstroemeria is a flower that combines the elegance of a lily with the exotic charm of an orchid. The asymmetrical arrangement of the petals creates an expressive and dynamic appearance, making alstroemeria widely used in both mono-flower arrangements and mixed bouquets.
Key advantages:
- wide range of colors: from delicate pastels to rich, vibrant hues
- long vase life
- gradual opening of inflorescences
❗Important:
Partially closed buds are a natural characteristic of alstroemeria. The flowers bloom sequentially, ensuring a longer-lasting decorative effect for the end customer.
MINIMUM ORDER FOR ALSTROEMERIA
- Ecuador/Colombia: 1 Quattro Box = 1 QB = 0.25 FB
- Kenya: 1 Small Jumbo Box = 1 SJB
PACKAGING
Alstroemeria from Ecuador, Colombia, and Kenya is packed in bunches of 10 stems.
Box types for packing alstroemeria from Colombia and Ecuador:
- HB (Half Box)
- QB (Quattro Box)
- EB (Eighth Box)
QB (Quattro Box) is the most popular format among our customers, having proven its practicality and convenience in both use and delivery::
- Colombia: 150–180 stems/QB
- Ecuador: 160 stems/QB or 300 stems/QB
Box type for packing alstroemeria from Kenya:
The number of stems per SJB box may vary depending on stem length and farm:
- 50 cm: 300-400 stems
- 60 cm: 300-400 stems
- 70 cm: 200-300 stems
- 80 cm: 200-300 stems
At the same time, Kenyan products visually differ in having a simpler packaging design compared to those from Ecuador and Colombia.
Packing Variations
The number of stems per box can vary significantly depending on the farm, due to the lack of uniform standards for box sizes.
Upon request:
- various packaging options can be arranged
- the optimal number of stems per box can be selected. We recommend coordinating this in advance with our manager.
Packing in Nets
We prefer alstroemeria packed in nets:
- protection against damage
- preservation of the flower’s shape
- better appearance upon delivery
❗Important:
- not all farms use nets (especially in Kenya)
- Sometimes nets are not available for all sizes
- Sometimes only for lengths of 70/80 cm (especially in Kenya)
- Sometimes for an additional fee (especially in Kenya)
If this is critical, we recommend clarifying with the manager when placing your order.
CHARACTERISTICS OF ALSTROMERIA BY COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
Daoflowers offers alstroemeria from growers in Ecuador, Colombia, and Kenya
ECUADOR AND COLOMBIA
Growing conditions:
- high-altitude farms
- stable climate
- combination of warm days and cool nights
- high sunlight exposure
This is the natural habitat of the alstroemeria; the flower is native to South America and originally began growing in the Andes.
Characteristics:
- large buds
- rich colors
- strong stems
- high resistance to breakage
As a result, Ecuadorian and Colombian alstroemeria are traditionally associated with high quality. This is the choice for customers who value visual appeal and homogeneity of the batch.
KENYA
Kenyan alstroemeria is a more versatile option.
Features:
At the same time, it demonstrates good longevity and variety in the assortment, and is often found in a more affordable price range. Quality may vary slightly depending on the farm.
Better suited for mixed bouquets.
For mono-variety bouquets, Ecuador/Colombia is preferable.
SIZES
Actual lengths:
- Ecuador: 60–90 cm
- Colombia: 60–85 cm
- Kenya: 50–80 cm
Alternative grading (common in Colombia):
- Fancy = 60 cm
- Select = 70 cm
- Super Select = 75 cm
- Premium = 80 cm
This system reflects not only length but also overall quality (including the number of flower inflorescences).
PURCHASE FORMAT
Alstroemeria is typically sold by color rather than by specific variety.
Available colors:
Each color may include several varieties, available depending on the farm
❗Important:
Orders for a specific variety are possible, but farms typically offer alternatives or substitutions within the selected color range.
Thus, alstroemeria can be ordered in several formats depending on the customer’s needs:
- by color (one color per box)
- mixed boxes (composed at the farm’s choice)
- mixed boxes upon the customer’s individual request (we can arrange and control for 2–3 chosen varieties or colors/shades to be packed in one box by the farm).
❗Important:
The ability to compose mixed boxes upon the customer’s individual request:
- depends on the farm and availability
- requires prior approval
- is not always 100% guaranteed, but we do our best to support the process
- for complete certainty, we recommend placing a standing order: in this case, the agreed-upon farm will pack the same set of varieties for the customer every week. Please note that this standing order format may be more expensive than a regular mix selected at the farm’s choice.
