Kenyan carnation from Subati farm: a competitive alternative in the carnation segment 30-07-2025 / News

The global market for fresh cut flowers, especially in the carnation segment, has been under noticeable strain in recent seasons. The shortage of supply is taking place against the backdrop of rising global demand for carnation itself. The image of Carnation is being revised: from a secondary and traditional flower it has transformed into a tool of the modern florist demanded in event-decor, interior solutions and boutique retail.

Traditional suppliers - Ecuador and Colombia - do not always cope with the demand in the market. Turkey, another player in the cut carnation supply segment, is able to provide some market share, but only from late fall to early spring. With the beginning of the summer season, due to hot climatic conditions, Turkish carnations completely drop out of the supply chain. These factors create a systemic supply shortage.

In light of these changes, Kenya is becoming increasingly relevant as an alternative source of carnation supply, in particular Subati farm located in the highlands of the country. Subati has already established itself in the market as a stable supplier of roses and is now actively increasing its carnation production, offering the market a competitive product capable of covering certain market niches.

The farm pays special attention to product standardization. Subati carnations arrive on the market with dense buds, good stem thickness, and quality packaging, demonstrating good performance in terms of vase life (up to 14 days on average). The assortment has an up-to-date color range.

Subati grows carnation in select (70 cm) and fancy (60 cm) gradations and offers large packings, making carnation even more attractively priced for the end buyer, taking into account logistics and customs costs.

Available packing of 20 stems in bunches in 0.25 fb:

  • select: 700 стебел/0,25 fb
  • fancy: 700 стебел/0,25 fb

Farm offers these varieties of carnation:

Thus, thanks to its geographical proximity to the European market, efficient logistics and a balanced price-quality ratio, Kenyan carnation can act not just as a backup option, but occupy its own niche as a full-fledged link in a diversified supply chain.
