Alstroemeria from Colombian, Ecuadorian and Kenyan growers 30-08-2024 / Flower types we supply

The alstroemeria is an amazing flower that combines the elegance of a lily with the exoticism of an orchid. Its petals are arranged asymmetrically, creating a unique and memorable image. This flower will be an ideal decoration for any bouquet, adding a touch of sophistication and originality.

The assortment of alstroemeria pleases with the variety of color palette, ranging from soft pastel tones to rich bright shades

Also alstroemeria is popular due to a fairly long period of life in a vase. Often buyers are confused when they see alstroemeria with partially opened buds. However, this is the beauty of the flower - the inflorescences open one by one, pleasing the eye.

Daoflowers offers alstroemeria from Colombian, Ecuadorian and Kenyan growers.

Colombia and Ecuador

The unique climate of Ecuador and Colombia, stable temperatures and plenty of sunshine all year round, along with high altitude farms and fertile soil, create optimal conditions for alstroemeria growing, including cool nights and warm days. Colombian and Ecuadorian alstroemeria is widely regarded as a top quality product with large buds, rich colors, strong and sturdy stems that are less prone to breakage. And this is not surprising, because this flower is native to South America and in nature originally began to grow in the Andes.

Ecuadorian and Colombian growers offer and confirm alstroemeria most often by color. Colors available include:

Each color is represented by several varieties that may be available depending on the farm grower. However, Colombian and Ecuadorian farms are the most likely to offer and confirm alstroemeria orders by color. It is possible, of course, to place an order for specific varieties of alstroemeria, but you should be prepared that the requested varieties will not be available and you will be offered alternative substitutions within the color you are interested in.

Alstroemeria in Ecuador grows in lengths from 60cm to 90cm, in Colombia mainly from 60cm to 80cm.

Not all of the farms specify the suggested gradation of alstroemeria in centimeters, viz: 60 cm/70 cm /80 cm/90 cm. Depending on the growing (more often in Colombia), it is possible to find a grading system for alstroemeria as:

  • fancy (corresponds to a length of 60 cm)
  • select (corresponds to a length of 70 cm)
  • super select (corresponds to a length of 75 cm)
  • premium (corresponds to a length of 80 cm)

This classification was originally intended to indicate the quality and general appearance of the flowers, including the number of flowers on the stem, and not just their size.

Perfection alstroemeria, created by the Perfection® Flowers group, deserves special attention at a higher price point. Perfection alstroemeria are grown using a patented process that provides maximum sunlight, moisture and nutrition to the flowers, resulting in exceptional quality. These flowers stay in the field longer, allowing them to reach their full potential in both size and color. The process is strictly followed at licensed farms in Colombia and Ecuador, ensuring consistently high quality standards.

Perfection alstroemeria has the following characteristics:

  • richer and brighter colors
  • 5-7 суцвіть на стеблі
  • minimum inflorescence size of 4.5 cm in diameter
  • stem thickness minimum 7 mm
  • stem length 85 cm
  • standardized and branded packing in Quattro Box (QB) only: 10 stems/bunch, 16 bunches/QB.

Other alstroemeria from Colombian and Ecuadorian farms are usually also packaged in bunches of 10 stems. HB (Half Box), QB (Quattro Box) or EB (Eighth Box) boxes are also possible. The number of stems per box can vary considerably from farm to farm due to the lack of uniform standards for box sizes. At the customer's request, we can offer several packing options so that the customer can choose the desired option in terms of the number of stems in the box.

Packing into QB (Quattro Box) boxes from both Colombian and Ecuadorian growers is still the most popular among customers. Colombian growers on average pack 150-180 stems/QB depending on length, while Ecuadorian growers offer packing of 160 stems/QB or 300 stems/QB in all lengths.

We give preference in the purchase to farms that supply alstroemeria in nets. In this way, delicate alstroemeria flowers are better protected from damage during transportation, are not subject to deformation and retain their attractive appearance. However, some farms do not use nets for certain positions, so if it is crucial for you, it is better to clarify this point in advance with our managers.

Kenya

Kenyan flower farms, which have been growing strongly in recent years, also offer alstroemeria of fairly good quality in its price segment.

Varieties are available in different colors and shades in lengths ranging from 50cm to 80cm.

Kenyan alstroemeria is packed in Jumbo boxes (JB)

The number of stems per box varies according to length and farm:

  • 50 cm: 400-450-600 stems
  • 60 cm: 300-350-400-500 stems
  • 70 cm: 220-250-350-400 stems
  • 80 cm: 200-300 stems

Kenyan varieties of alstroemeria are characterized by less lushness, slightly smaller bud size and an abundance of greenery. Alstroemeria from Kenyan growers are ideal for forming bouquets with other flowers. For mono bouquets Colombian and Ecuadorian top quality alstroemeria will still look more favorable.

Kenyan alstroemeria differs from Colombian and Ecuadorian alstroemeria in its simpler packaging. Some Kenyan farms have started using as a default nets for all gradations of alstroemeria. However, other farms pack only 70/80cm alstroemeria in nets and for the other gradations, they offer optional nets at an additional cost.

Alstroemeria from the above countries can be purchased either by color (one color per box) or in mixes (mixed boxes of several varieties, usually from a farm of your choice).

The minimum order for alstroemeria is 1 Quattro Box (=1 QB = 0.25 FB) in Colombia and Ecuador and 1 Jumbo Box (JB) in Kenya.

We recommend ordering alstroemeria in advance, a few days before departure from farms to guarantee the fulfillment of your order. On our web platform of daily online purchases, you will also find interesting and favorable offers from trusted growers known for their quality.
