Review of the flower market in Ecuador, Colombia and Kenya after the end of the February holiday shipments. Weeks 11-12, March 2025 09-03-2025 / News

Early March traditionally represents a transition period for the flower market after strong February sales associated with Valentine's Day and International Women's Day shipments.

Ecuador

At the moment, the market is characterized by a significant decline in rose production in Ecuador. This is due to cold and rainy weather, as well as the cycle of plant recovery after intensive pruning for February holiday deliveries. Accordingly, farms have so far managed to keep rose prices high, very unusual for the post-holiday period.

The red rose variety Explorer is still in short supply and is still being sold with a load of regular colored varieties. The low level of rose production does not allow the market to be saturated with enough sought-after items. Thus all popular varieties sell out rather quickly. The level of rose prices is still far from regular, although there is a slight decrease compared to February deliveries.

With the current decline in rose production in Ecuador, we recommend the following:

  • Place orders in advance so that we can fulfill positions you are interested in in a timely and quality manner.
  • Consider fulfillment and purchase of popular varieties in QB (Quattro Box) boxes with 100 stems packing. Limited farm supply often does not allow for more than 1 QB (Quattro Box) of a variety, so this approach will increase the likelihood of getting the items you need.
  • Consider alternative substitutions in colors and lengths.
  • Start purchasing at 7:00 am Ecuadorian time on our daily online bids web platform, and do not haggle when purchasing Ecuadorian roses. Farms are not willing to lower prices right now and the price negotiation only prolongs the buying process, increasing the risk of missing out on popular varieties that sell out extremely quickly.

This situation with low rose production in Ecuador will tentatively last for a few more weeks.

There are no problems with the purchase of other types of flowers such as carnations, gypsophila, alstromeria, mattiola (stock), ranunculus, anemones etc.

Colombia

The Colombian market returned to normal faster after the holiday marathon ended. Rose orders, both Freedom and colored varieties, are being filled without problems. Rose price levels have stabilized and returned to regular levels.

Colombian carnation production is beginning to recover, with many items already on the market in sufficient volume to fulfill current orders.

It is worth noting that the unpleasant trend of price increases on the part of farms for carnation since the beginning of the new flower year continues. Growers explain this increase by the need to compensate for rising production costs, including fertilizers and chemicals. The increased popularity of cloves and the ever-increasing demand for them could also be an important provoking factor.

The situation with mini carnations is still difficult, as availability is still limited.

Hydrangea, alstroemeria and other types of flowers are being purchased without problems, so we are waiting for your orders!

Kenya

The Kenyan market offers rose, spray rose, garden rose and garden spray rose products in quite a varied and attractive range. Prices have stabilized at the usual affordable level and promotional offers have started to appear. So now you can consider Kenyan products as a great alternative to compensate for temporary difficulties with flower availability in Ecuador.
