What is necessary for European company to organize the supply of imported flowers from Daoflowers 29-05-2023 / FAQ

Over the years, our company has been buying flowers in Ecuador, Colombia and Kenya. We deliver flowers to Asia, Eastern Europe and to the countries of European Union. Every day we cooperate with more than 250 farms. We operate in 4 languages: in English and Spanish with European customers, in Ukrainian and Russian with customers from Eastern Europe.

The majority of EU wholesale customers purchase flowers at the auctions in the Netherlands. First of all the transport companies, at the customers’ request, pick up the orders from the flower auctions, and then they load boxes of Daoflowers - pre-cooled and ready to be picked up from the refrigerated warehouse. Then these transport companies deliver the cargoes from the Netherlands to the customer`s country. We can help the customer to develop a logistics option – to choose a transport company that will pick up the boxes in the Netherlands and deliver them to the country of destination (for instance, in the EU).

Daoflowers delivers flower cargoes to Amsterdam to the warehouse of the handling agency IPHandlers BV) that provides the customs clearance for European customers, vacuum pre-cooling of flower shipments, preparation of all the necessary documents, loading to trucks or further delivery by air flights from Amsterdam.

If the customer prefers to cooperate with another company that organizes the import procedure, then we will deliver the goods to this alternative agent.

Before starting cooperation with Daoflowers it is better to begin a constructive dialogue about the flowers purchase with an example of your average weekly order at the usual time (not holiday period): varieties, grades/lengths and quantity of each variety. This can be done in any format. We will calculate your example of choice out of range of products, based on the current market prices, and will send you a detailed picture of the purchase per farms.

In order to start cooperation with Daoflowers, European company will have to open an account with IPHandlers BV or with the similar handling agency that will arrange the customs clearance. To open account your company will need an EORI number. The cost of customs (import) procedures will be paid by customer to IP Handlers separately from the cost of flowers.

Daoflowers will invoice the European customer and the prices will include:

  • FOB cost of flowers
  • Daoflowers commission fee
  • Airfreight cost to Amsterdam
  • The cost of vacuum pre-cooling (cooling) of cargo and its refrigeration storage until the transfer to the customer`s transport company

If a customer makes a purchase on the online platform of daily offers of the free market, he can see the price of our invoice for flowers delivered to Amsterdam.

It is necessary for a customer from the European Union to provide us with data on the consignee of the flower shipment, in whose name we issue a phyto certificate and a certificate of origin required for the customs (import) procedure.

The customer will be asked to choose one of the possible delivery options:

  • *we can deliver flowers to the warehouse of our transport agent in Amsterdam with the further loading into the truck of the customer`s transport company
  • *we can arrange logistics to the international airport in Europe specified by the customer. In this case, the customer will need to perform customs clearing of the flower cargo on his own, which will arrive at specified international airport.

Due to the regular cooperation with a large number of farms we can provide our customers with indicative prices 3-5 days before demanded arrival of goods.

There are 2 main order purchase practices:

1. Pre-order. The customer sends us an order for certain items in advance (usually a week before the flowers arrival in Amsterdam).

  • there is much more time to process an order both with a large number of farms and with strict farms, with prohibitions and price limits
  • there is a chance to know the approximate cost of flowers in advance

2. Flower purchase online from the free market at daoflowers.com using online-purchase module or through Daoflowers mobile App.

The advantages of this method are:

  • among the open market offers from farms you can find an interesting positions and quite often at a very good price
  • the customer on his own can buy and choose online the farms and flower positions

The combined method of buying flowers has proved itself to be the best. The customer includes in his preliminary order positions that are limited in the purchase on farms and varieties. Positions that complement the assortment or are especially interesting because of the price should be purchased online. If on the flower market there is a small volume of flowers, we recommend to arrange the major part of the planned purchase in the form of a preliminary order.

It is worth noting that flower prices are not fixed and stable, they change and depend on the situation on the market. If requested by the customer it is possible to fix the volume and prices - to make a standing order. But, in general, throughout the whole season it will be more expensive to work under the standing order than on the open-market.
